How do fire alarms work?

Fire alarms are designed to detect the early signs of a fire (smoke and heat) and notify building occupants of the need to evacuate immediately. Systems are typically made up of detection devices such as heat detectors and smoke alarms, all of which are connected to a central fire alarm panel. Manual call points are normally located at final exists and the changing of floor levels. Sounders are located through out the building to achieve the correct decibel levels in the event of the fire alarm being triggered.

Are there different types of fire alarms?

There are two main types of fire alarm; addressable fire alarm systems and conventional fire alarm systems. Addressable systems are when all linked devices have an ‘address’ or location programmed into the system. This means if a device is triggered, the panel will show exactly which device it was and where it is in the building. Conventional systems don’t allow you to pinpoint which device has been triggered. Instead, areas of the building are sectioned into ‘zones.’

What if my building has no cable in place for a fire alarm system?

if it is not possible to install cables and the building is of a finished standard, we can use EMS wireless fire alarm range.

SmartCell is the newly developed “smart” fire system designed for smaller properties and SME’s.

With “EMS” technology inside, SmartCell provides big system features, benefits and protection in a compact, yet powerful system, that supports up to 64 fire devices. Using next generation wireless technology, SmartCell is a connected system that allows users and service companies full remote access and diagnostics using an optional “on board” communications module. Any activity on SmartCell can be transmitted by text or email, almost instantaneously giving up to the minute information on what’s happening in the protected building.
