Types of Gate Automation Systems:

There are two options for gate automation when designing electric gates.

  • Sliding gates can be a good option if you don’t have much room available to swing the gate open and shut; they slide either left or right of the frame.

  • A swing gate also requires more space as it swings wide like traditional style garden designs but is better suited for areas with lots of square footage because sliding doors take up less room than swinging ones do in tight spaces!

Are automated gate systems expensive?

This depends on many factors and for that reason it’s best to do your research. In our experience, it is not nearly as pricey an option as many people think! The price depends largely on what size and style you’re interested in having at your home or business premises so we would be happy to provide a detailed quote over the phone if that sounds like something you might want too.

Can automated Gates Be Opened Manually?

All good-quality industrial and residential electric gates include a manual override so owners can open them in the event of a power cut. The override disengages the electric gate motor and lock so that gate operators can push it open or shut. Different types have different overrides; however, you don’t need to worry as all come with full instructions included!

What Are The Options For Electric Gate Automation?

Double and Single Swing refer to motors which attach to the gate and pillar of a swing motion gate. Sliding Gates or a Wheeled Electric Gate if you require a motor which utilises a wheeled motor to drive your gates.

Does an Automatic Security Gate Need Safety Edges?

Automated gates can be fitted with safety edges to prevent injury, and are a perfect way for those who have pets or small children.

Why should you automate your existing gates?

Convenience

How many times do you leave your gate open because it avoids the hassle of opening and closing them, especially on windy or rainy days? This really defeats the purpose of having a gate in the first place. By automating your existing gates, you have the convenience of opening and closing your gates at the touch of a button from your car or home.

Security

Automatic gates, because they are always closed, provide a barrier which deters opportunist burglars. If used in conjunction with a video or audio intercom it gives you complete control on who has access to your property, all from the safety of your home.

Safety

With your gates always closed you have piece of mind your children or pets won’t wonder out onto busy roads. This creates a safe and secure boundary for your property.

 MAINTENANCE

Most people know that automated gates need to be maintained in order to keep them working properly, but many don't know how often this maintenance should be carried out.

Automated gate maintenance (technical inspection) should be carried out at least once a year to limit the number of gate failures. It is strongly advised to do periodic gate maintenance and inspections. This helps to keep your gate in good health and significantly extend components life. A properly installed, utilized and maintained entrance gate will serve you for many years.

Barrier Systems

Automatic traffic barriers provide an effective solution for the control of vehicle access to car parks within residential and commercial properties, check points and restricted areas. Our automatic traffic barriers come in a wide variety of lengths and are traditionally painted red and white. The barrier boom sits on an end rest when lowered, which can be fixed to the ground or attached to the end of the boom.

There are several additional options available for use with your automatic traffic barrier:

  • Barrier Signage – add a warning sign such as ‘STOP’, ‘NO ENTRY’ or ‘NO EXIT’

  • Barrier Boom Lights – increase the visibility of your barrier by adding LED lights along the length of the boom

  • Lower Folding Skirt – installed below the boom

  • Full Height Folding Skirt – this has a folding skirt both above and below the boom

  • Articulated Boom – the boom hinges which is ideal for entrances with limited height clearance

  • Traffic Lights – traffic lights signalling when a vehicle needs to stop or go

  • Vehicle Sensors – various methods of detecting vehicles such as vehicle detector loops installed under the road surface or ultra-sonic vehicle pedestrian sensors

  • Access Controls – remote control, keypads or intercom

At Cox Security Systems Ltd, we have a wealth of experience supplying and installing quality automatic traffic barriers. All our barriers are installed with safety a priority and conform to all relevant health and safety guidelines.

What Type Of Access Control System Do I Need for my gate/ barrier system?

The type of access control system required for your needs depends on a variety of factors. For domestic automatic gates a remote control with an intercom might be all you require. However, for car park entry barriers with a large volume of users you might need a keypad or card reader. At Automated Access Control we will discuss with you the level of security and convenience you require and based on your budget give sound advice on the best access control system for your needs. We supply, install and maintain high quality access control systems from market leading manufacturers.

Access control systems can be stand alone or PC based. Stand-alone works by adding cards or fobs directly from the reader or keypad. PC based systems use a desktop reader linked to a computer. The cards or fobs are added or removed using the desktop reader.

Remote Control: Remote controls look and work in the same way as a car key operating its central locking. Just press the button to open or close the gate or barrier. These are most commonly used for controlling domestic electric gates as the remote control can be kept in your car or home.

Keypad:A keypad is located either on or next to the gate or barrier. When you enter the correct preprogramed code, it will open or close the gate. Keypads can be stand alone or PC based.
